Throughout my life the game of football has prepared me for real world experiences. Sometimes you get knocked down and all around, but in the end depending on what you’re made of you get up again and again! The Todd Bates Football Skills Camp was started to not only help players on the field, but to help them realize the importance of their behavior off the playing field. Today’s youth are getting mixed signals from world class athletes who have the privilege of being the faces of their organizations, but instead some of them are making bad decisions.

This is the reason I have character building sessions throughout the camp. Examples of character traits are given to the players during breaks, and I also have guest speakers to come and give participants an encouraging message, as well as, break down the importance of their behavior in the classroom, at home, and in their communities. In addition, this camp was created to not only bring exposure to the players and the Heflin community, but to East Alabama and surrounding areas. So many times while I was growing up athletes from East Alabama, especially, were overlooked by colleges nationwide. My vision for this camp is to serve as a tool that will change this problem. The Todd Bates Football Skills Camp is growing and by God’s grace it will only get bigger and better!
